Good morning and happy Monday! Today I was planning to blog about the importance of printing your photos. However, as I sit down to write this, I am pulled back to blogging about MOMS. My post about prints can wait a week. This week it is all about moms since Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but Mother’s Day in my house is simple. It is about not doing by usual Sunday chores (hubby gets to do them) and I get to enjoy my kiddos. We don’t do anything fancy. They make me breakfast, hubby cleans up and does the laundry, and we usually go to the park, for a walk, or something along those lines. Last year we went to a sushi restaurant for lunch and were the only people in the place!
For a long, long time Mother’s Day was a bust. I’m sure you all know what I mean. When our kids are young we have high hopes that maybe, just maybe they will suddenly BEHAVE and be NICE and LOVING towards us on our big day. But they don’t. Why? Because they are babies and kids! They don’t care that it is a day to celebrate mom! But as they get older (as mine have) they are starting to get it. They now get excited and are pretty cute. They make me sweet little cards and smother me with extra hugs and cuddles. And that is all I need. No gifts. No store bought cards. No flowers (unless they are dandelions picked from the grass). Just a nice, relaxing day where we can just be happy together. It is all about bringing back to being a family and enjoying each other’s company.
So what does this have to do with photography and my blog? Well, each year I offer Mother’s Day sessions. In these sessions I try to do the same thing. I don’t want a bunch of posed photos where kids have to be perfect. I want these sessions to be FUN! I want moms to get on the ground and tickle and cuddle their kiddos! I want them to just be natural and love on each other! Thanks to the rain we have been having and colds and the flu we are a bit behind this year with these sessions. I have a bunch coming up but thought I’d share a couple of images showing moms being moms and kids being kids. And I am also slipping in a couple shots of moms with their new babies. After all, there is nothing like that first Mother’s Day with a new baby in the house.
Thank you to all of you moms out there for doing what you do! Your kids and spouses really do appreciate you! And remember, HAVE FUN with your kids and GET IN THE FRAME! Preserve some of those moments so they can look back and say, “Oh, I remember how much fun we had as kids!” Happy Mother’s Day!!!
XOXO
